Description

Introduction

Hammer Crusher is a single-stage impact crushing machine that uses high-speed rotating hammers to crush materials. It consists of a rotor with a series of hammers (swing or fixed) attached to its circumference, a crushing chamber, and a grate (sieve) plate at the bottom. Material is fed into the chamber, struck by the hammers, shattered upon impact, and further reduced by impact against the chamber walls and mutual collision between particles. Once the material is reduced to a size smaller than the grate openings, it passes through and is discharged.
Hammer crushers are available in both reversible and non-reversible designs, and can handle dry or wet feed (with appropriate anti-blocking design). They are widely used for medium-hard and brittle materials, offering a high reduction ratio in a single stage.

Applications

  • Mining-Crushing coal, gypsum, limestone, phosphate rock, salt, and soft ores.
  • Cement industry-Crushing limestone, clay, shale, and clinker before clinker production.
  • Aggregate production-Processing medium-hard stones for road base and fill materials.
  • Construction & Recycling-Crushing concrete blocks, bricks, and demolition waste (with care).

Features & Advantages

  • High reduction ratio-Can reduce 100–400 mm feed to 0–30 mm in one stage (up to 20:1 ratio).
  • Compact & simple structure-Easy to install, operate, and maintain; fewer moving parts.
  • Adjustable output size-Change grate bar spacing or rotor speed to control product size.
  • High wear resistance-Hammers and liners made of high manganese steel or alloy steel for long life.
  • Energy efficient-Lower power consumption compared to jaw or cone crushers for same capacity (in its material range).
  • Dry & wet crushing-Suitable for both dry and wet materials (with optional anti-blocking design).
  • Reversible rotor design-Extends hammer life–both sides of the hammer can be used before replacement.
  • Large feeding capacity-Accepts bulky feed with minimal pre-screening.
  • Self-cleaning feature-The hammer design and grate openings prevent clogging (for most materials).
  • Wide model range-From small units (5 t/h) to large industrial crushers (300+ t/h).

Key Benefits

  • Single-stage crushing–Replaces jaw + secondary crusher for medium-hard materials, reducing equipment and conveyor costs.
  • Excellent product shape–Produces cubical and uniform particles due to impact breaking.
  • Low operating cost–Durable wear parts and simple design result in low cost per ton.
  • Quick maintenance–Easy access to hammers and grates; replacement is fast.
  • Versatile–Handles a wide range of materials and moisture levels.

Main Components

  • Rotor-Rotating shaft carrying the hammers; powered by motor.
  • Hammers (swing or fixed)-Attached to rotor; strike and break material.
  • Grate (sieve) plate-Bottom screen with openings; controls maximum product size.
  • Liners (impact plates)-Replaceable plates inside chamber; protect housing from wear.
  • Housing-Heavy-duty steel enclosure; supports rotor and liners.
  • Feeding chute-Directs material into crushing zone.
  • Drive system-Motor + V-belts or coupling; provides rotor rotation.
  • Discharge opening-Allows product to exit once it passes the grate.

Maintenance Tips

  • Daily inspection–Check hammers for wear, cracking, or breakage.
  • Monitor product size–Oversized output indicates worn hammers or open grate gaps.
  • Rotate / replace hammers–Use both ends (reversible) or replace in sets to maintain balance.
  • Check grate bars–Inspect for wear, breakage, or blockages; clean regularly.
  • Lubricate bearings–Grease according to manufacturer schedule.
  • Check rotor balance–Unbalanced rotor causes vibration; replace hammers in matched sets.
  • Inspect liners (impact plates)–Replace when wear reaches housing level.
  • Control feed moisture–Limit to 10–15% to prevent grate blinding and clogging.
  • Avoid tramp metal–Use magnetic separator before feed to prevent hammer damage.
